Paul Gauguin - Poèmes Barbares
Paul Gauguin - Poèmes Barbares
Paul Gauguin was a French Post-Impressionist artist whose work laid the foundation for the Primitivist movement and deeply influenced the Symbolist movement. His early work as a stockbroker enabled him to collect Impressionist paintings, and he began painting in his spare time.
Gauguin's early paintings are characterized by the bright color palette and light subject matter typical of Impressionism. However, he grew dissatisfied with the movement's constraints and began exploring greater emotional depth, and simplified forms, gradually letting go of traditional painting technique. His quest for originality led him away from Europe to exotic locations where he sought inspiration and a return to what he considered purer societal values.
This pursuit took him eventually to Tahiti, where his art took on the vibrant colors and themes that would define his most famous works, including Poèmes Barbares (1896).
The art is printed on matte museum-quality paper sourced from Japan.
